4/20/99 Series
Process Statement:
Everything in this series was shot using a 1996 Olympus Stylus Epic. I do not edit the majority of my photos. The photos I do choose to edit have a white border and squared aspect. I use an original Quartz Date on all photos. For the most part everything is original despite a few edits.
I choose to work with artists who portray the 90's vibe; artists who I frequently listen to or who are recognizable on stage. No photos are planned.
Artist Statement:
I am a passive expressionist. Therefore, I prefer to express my emotions that affected me in the past rather than current. Nostalgia is the closest word that describes this "feeling", though this word is misinterpreted and wrongly used today.
The late 90's was a historical decade. I do not recall a time when I was more happy and care-free. In this series, I try to capture the 90's vibe in a photograph and portray my feelings of that era to the viewer.
Society is very technology based. My use of film, a $4 camera from the thrift store, and a Quartz Date is my way of rebelling against todays standards, morals, principles, and beliefs. This is a series that will never be complete.
